Green Technology: Copeland, a global leader in sustainable climate solutions and itself a Blackstone portfolio company, has acquired SPH Sustainable Process Heat GmbH (SPH), a Germany-based technology company specializing in industrial heat pumps.

TAP M&A served as exclusive advisor to the sellers.

SPH focuses on the development, manufacturing, and maintenance of heat pumps for industrial steam applications at temperatures up to 180°C. Their solutions support a broad spectrum of natural refrigerants and refrigerants with low global warming potential. SPH’s innovative ThermBooster™ technology allows industrial customers to replace fossil fuel systems with more energy-efficient heating alternatives.

With this acquisition, Copeland expands its industrial heating portfolio, enabling the company to offer new and existing customers a broader array of essential heat pump technologies and solutions.

“We are excited to join the Copeland team,” said SPH founders Andreas Muck, Tim Hamacher, and Tor Hodne. “Combining our high-temperature heat pump technology with Copeland’s extensive reach and expertise, we can help a wider range of industrial customers accelerate their transition to cleaner, more energy-efficient heating. Together, we’re committed to global sustainability and to helping industries achieve their ambitious electrification targets.”

The Spirax Group, a leading steam solutions provider, will retain a minority share in SPH under Copeland’s ownership and intends to market SPH’s heat pump solutions through its Steam Thermal Solutions business.
